[Seoul, March 18, 2019(Mon)] Successfully establishing itself as Asia's biggest hub for fashion business and one of the five top fashion week events in the world, Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2019 will kick off in four days.  

 

Hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and organized by the Seoul Design Foundation(CEO Choi Kyung Ran), Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2019 will take place at Dongdaemun Design Plaza from March 19(Tue) to 24(Sun). Supported by various sponsors including YOOX, Marriott international, ABSOLUT VODKA, Coca-Cola and Dong-A TV, Seoul Fashion Week will begin with the pop-up exhibition of 'Seoul's 10Soul', which will be followed by a total of 37 Seoul Collection shows including those of 33 leading domestic designer brands, three corporate brands(PEOPLE OF THE WORLD, sfdf X IISE, FOLLET X YOUSER), and London-based Cottweiler, part of SFW's international exchanges scheme. 

 

In addition, Seoul Fashion Week will feature fabulous runway events of 20 'Generation Next' brands, newly introduced shows of young, promising fashion design students, and the global-scale Generation Next Seoul(GN_S) Trade Show with the participation of 95 designer brands. 

 

Besides, there will be colorful visitor participation programs for both ordinary Seoulites and fashion buffs. Here we have listed some points of interest for the upcoming Seoul Fashion Week events.

A Festival with Various Fashion and Cultural Programs

 

'SFW Young Talents Show' Newly Introduced for the Future of K-Fashion! 

A new program of Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2019, 'SFW Young Talents Show' will take place at the venue for Generation Next on March 21. This program, which will be run in collaboration with the Seoul Design Foundation, aims to feature young talents from many fashion-related colleges, and provide young, promising design students with opportunities to gain field experiences and display their talents and enthusiasm in fashion.

This season, a total of 31 students will showcase their talents to the audience at DDP who will surely enjoy watching the captivating shows of young future designers. 

  

 

'Seoul's 10 Soul' Exhibition and Pop-up store Features 10 Rising Stars of the Year 

During the duration of Seoul Fashion Week F/W 2019, that will begin with the 'Seoul's 10Soul' exhibition and pop-up store, ordinary visitors will be offered unusual chances to wear and buy some items of the 'Seoul's 10Soul' collections. Now celebrating its 10-year anniversary, the ambitious fashion project has played a great role in helping many SFW designers go global and improving the awareness of K-Fashion.  

This season, Han Hyun Min of Munn; Jo Eun Hye of BOURIE; Park Hwan Sung of D-ANTIDOTE; Lee Han Chul of HAN CHUL LEE; Park Seung Gun of PUSH BUTTON; Yoon Chon Ho of YCH; Lee Moo Yeol and Kim Min Hee of YOUSER; Kim Bona and Lim Jae Hyuk of BESFXXK; Lee Jae Hyung of MAXXIJ; and Lee Kyu Ho of MOHO will unveil their pop-up-store-themed collections at Hino's Recipe(4th floor of Design Lab). 

 

Since 2010, the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Design Foundation have supported 10 annually selected promising, creative designers with global competence in holding pop-up store events in collaboration with internationally renowned select shops and prestigious department stores and offering them chances to explore overseas markets. 

 

A Variety of Visitor Participation Programs for Fashion Buffs 

This season, there will be a variety of visitor programs in collaboration with many businesses. In collaboration with Suecomma Bonnie, a designer shoes brand, YOOX, a world-famous online fashion shop, will run a capsule collection booth in the digital zone where visitors can wear and experience its fabulous items.   

 

Marriott international, one of the biggest hotel chains in the world, will run a travel-themed photo booth and giveaway events under the title of 'Marriott Bonvoy', a new brand name of its loyalty program. ABSOLUT VODKA, a global premium vodka brand, will open 'Pink Photo' booth in collaboration with ABSOLUT GRAPEFRUIT and VIBRATE, a participating brand in SFW. Together with ESteem, Coca-Cola will run 'Seagram Face' booth, where visitors can have refreshing Seagram drinks and post their photos on social media. Selected winners can enjoy a lot of benefits. In addition, with the help of Dong-A TV, every runway show of Seoul Fashion Week will be shown live on the huge digital screen at Oullim Square, DDP. Fashion buffs can also watch the runway shows via Naver V StyLive and the official website of Seoul Fashion Week.

Collaborations with Global Fashion Big Names!

 

Cottweiler, a globally recognized London brand, Presents Its First Show in Korea  

As part of SFW's international exchanges scheme with British Fashion Council and globalization programs of Seoul fashion business, London-based Cottweiler will present its first runway show in Korea on March 22. A menswear brand by Ben Cottrell and Matthew Dainty, Cottweiler won the British round of the Woolmark Prize for Menswear in 2017. This season, with the concept of 'The Lost Art of Cruising', the brand will feature an ideal combination of moss green printed silk, mohair, natural wool, hand-dyed merino wool and soft shell.  

 

Q&A with Global Fashion Experts! Mentoring Seminars and New Portfolio Reviews

While continuing to interact with London Fashion Week, Seoul Fashion Week this year aims to expand exchange with Milan. For this, Sara Maino, Vogue Italia deputy editor-in-chief and head of Vogue Talents will visit Korea to have discussions on the issue of Seoul-Milan designers exchanges and collaborations, and meet photographers, stylists, designers and design studednts through the 'Portfolio Review' program. Anders Christian Madsen, fashion critic of British Vogue, will also meet photographers, stylists and designers and design students to give one-on-one portfolio advices. Besides, under the title of 'the Future of E-Commerce', many globally acclaimed fashion experts who lead online luxury fashion markets will participate in SFW's mentoring program to exchange their thoughts and views with other participants.

Business Platform Strengthened, Fashion Events Diversified

 

GN_S(Generation Next Seoul) to be Joined by 95 Brands, the Largest Scale Ever Compared to Previous F/W Seasons! Fashion Accessories Sections to be Run Separately 

Since 2016, Seoul Fashion Week has made great efforts to promote the Generation Next Seoul(GN_S) Trade Show along with its Seoul Collection, and achieved successful results. This season, GN_S will be held at Art Hall 1 and the International Conference Hall, the main venues of Seoul Fashion Week. Now that this trade show will take place alongside with runway shows, it's now expected that the awareness of GN_S as a global fashion fair will be further enhanced gaining fruitful synergy effects.    

 

From globally recognized BLINDNESS and J KOO to Seoul Collection participants BIG PARK and D.GNAK, a total of 95 brands will take part in the trade show, which is the largest scale ever compared to the previous F/W seasons. 

Particularly worth attention are the separately-run fashion accessories sections for increasing professional effectiveness. A total of 11 fashion accessories, shoes and bags brands will join this program, while international buyers will also be invited to help launch the brands into the world.  

 

Diversified Shows and Spatial Variations using Parking Area 

Spatial variations and diversified shows also make up a point of interest in this season. The parking area in the third basement of Design Lab, DDP, will be used as an official show venue of Seoul Collection. Here, a total of 11 brands including KYE, Beyond Closet and YCH, plus London-based designer brand Cottweiler will hold their runway shows.
